Dal Makhni |MaaKiDal | NoOnionNoGarlic

Dal Makhni or Maa ki dal is a very nutritious lentil curry. Extremly Popular in Northern part of India. It taste great with Naan or Rice. It is basically made from Bean (Rajma ) and Black gram lentil ( Black Urad). Essentially these dal are boiled for long hours to get that flavors and the creaminess in it. My family loves this dal makhni. Be it a close knit family dinner or a large party, this is one dish that has been instant hit and its so easy to make you wont believe it.

Dal or as they call in the restaurants "Indian Lentil curry" which is a Yellow Lentil but this one is so different from it.

Checkout my version of Dhaba style Dal Makhni.  Its  NO onion and No garlic Dal Makhni.

 Ingredients
1 cup Black urad dal
 0.5 cup Rajma

1 large Tomato
1 inch Ginger
handful chopped cilantro
1 chilli
1 tbsp Garam Masala
1 tbsp Dried Fenugreek leaves( Kasturi Methi)

Procedure

Wash and Soak Rajma and Urad Dal overnight.  ( Lot of people use Whole Urad Dal) I like to use the half urad dal .

Drain the water and using fresh water add it to the pressure cooker.  It is nice 5 whistles to that it is mushy
I have used Instant pot . Manual mode 25 mins.

Once it cools down give it a good stir.
Add Garam masala, chilli powder.

I have used one tomato + a piece of ginger + chilli and grind it into smooth paste.
Add this to the cooked Dal.

Add salt , little dry fenugreek leaves, a dollops of butter .

let it simmer on low flame for atleast 30 mins.. add water when consistency is thick.  Else it will be very thick..
The more you boil it , the better taste it gets...
Add some cream for added creaminess.

Best taste next day 😋 enjoy with your Rice or Naan

With my Brown Rice :)
